Welcome to Green Week, where we’re sharing our best tips for creating a more eco-friendly home and lifestyle.

At The Spruce, we love finding creative ways to make our homes more green, which is why we can’t wait to dedicate an entire week to share these tips with you. And we’ve partnered with our sister site, Treehugger, to ensure you’re getting the best information to make your home greener, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly.

    What Is Green Week?

Making a greener, cleaner home is nothing new, but it’s becoming more accessible than ever. Have you ever wondered whether you can cut the chemicals in your home while still keeping it clean and dirt-free? Or wondered how you could reuse and recycle everyday items beyond just one use? Then Green Week will be right up your alley.

No matter where you want to make your home more environmentally friendly—the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom, or even your garden—we have actionable tips and tricks you can use for years to come. Every day this week, we’ll be sharing our best green cleaning, recycling, and repurposing advice on our homepage, in our newsletters, and across social media.

    Creating Your Greenest, Cleanest Home

There are more cleaning products marketed to us than ever, and it seems like every inch of our home requires a different cleaning solution filled with chemicals we can’t pronounce. And each product comes in its own single-use plastic bottle or container, taking up valuable space in your cupboards and closets.

By opting for more environmentally friendly products, making your own green DIY products, recycling as much as you can, and composting your kitchen scraps, you won’t just be reducing the number of chemicals you use or the number of plastics that end up in the landfill—green cleaning can be a great way to save money and space in your home.

    How to Get Started

If you can’t wait to start on your new green cleaning journey, you don’t have to! There are so many ways to begin incorporating more environmentally-friendly practices into your everyday life:

    • Stock up on the basics: baking soda, white vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, castile soap, and sodium carbonate are all highly effective green cleaners that can be used throughout your home.
    • Make your own DIY cleaning solutions.
    • Invest in reusable spray bottles and containers for your homemade cleaners; glass bottles are a great option.
    • Avoid commercial “air fresheners;” making fresheners with natural ingredients, keeping your home clean, and making the most of fresh air will help to eliminate most odors.

    Where The Spruce Comes In

We’re so excited to be partnering with Treehugger, the leader in sustainable living, for the Best of Green Awards for Green Cleaning.

And visit our homepage each day for new articles and subscribe to our newsletters. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok for yet more green cleaning content to help you clean every part of your home.
